A fly in the Ointment 

Ecclesiastes 10:1-3 (ESV)
Dead flies make the perfumer’s ointment give off a stench;
so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right,
but a fool’s heart to the left.
Even when the fool walks on the road, he lacks sense,
and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

Why does the church not smell the fly in the ointment?
Why must we add silly things to our traditions and what we believe?
I understand that the 25th of December is probably not the real birth date of Christ. But this is the date that we celebrate the birth of Christ. Why can't we just celebrate that. Why must we bring in Santa Claus, elf on the shelf, Christmas trees, shopping to buy gifts…
Then we have Easter why must we bring in the Easter Bunny, Easter eggs? Why are we so eager to bring in the traditions of the world or pagans? (Nature worship)

Why are we not more like this?
Revelation 4:8-10 (ESV)
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

Revelation 7:11-12 (ESV)
And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,  
saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Should we not separate ourselves out from this world and truly worship the Lord God almighty and what he has done for us through His Son. We need more falling on our face before our Lord sing and Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty.

2 Corinthians 6:16-17 (ESV)
What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you,

Joshua 24:15 (ESV)
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Does the fly in the ointment get under your skin

We need to celebrate Christmas for what it is really about
Matthew 1:21 (ESV)
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Redemption from our sins, salvation.
And we should celebrate Christ every day not just one day of the year.
